It may be difficult to maintain this position at first, especially once moving and you may find that your legs
creep forward, or you may be tempted to grip with your knees if you feel unbalanced. If you feel unbalanced or feel
you are losing the correct position it is often best to move to a slower pace, reposition yourself correctly and
then start again rather than to continue unbalanced as this only serves to make it harder for both horse and rider
to relax and work together. However, by the 20th century, many pony breeds had Arabian and other blood added to
make a more refined pony suitable for riding. Mare's milk is not a significant source of nutrients for the foal
after about four months, though it does no harm to a healthy mare for a foal to nurse a month or two longer and may
be of some psychological benefit to the foal. There are isolated populations of feral horses in a number of places,
including Portugal, Scotland, and a number of barrier islands along the Atlantic coast of North America from Sable
Island off Nova Scotia, to the Shackleford Banks of North Carolina.
